Kilcullen man wins Lottery show big prize

KILCULLEN, 12 August 2002: by Brian Byrne. When Adeline and Yvette Poufong from Kilcullen take to the stage at Riverbank at the end of the month, they'll have an extra spring in their steps on the boards. Because their Dad Charles (above) was the winner of last weekend's biggest prize on the RTE/National Lottery Fame and Fortune game show.

He took home 500,250 euros after spinning the last wheel of the show. Up to then, Charles had been exceptionally unlucky, with only 250 euros left of his earlier winings while other participants were taking home many thousand, cars and holidays.

After opening the 'vault', Charles plumped for box number 4, saying it was his lucky number. "I won something on four before," he told presenter Marty Whelan.

Charles has been in Ireland since 1985, after meeting his Irish wife Catriona in his native Cameroons in 1981. They live in Kilcullen, and Charles is a part-time teacher of French and Geography.

The show in the Riverbank Centre is a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Paddy Melia. Among the cast are Kilcullen artists Paul Lynch and Suzi Grennell.
