Litter Hotline set up by council

KILDARE GENERAL, 27 June 2002: by Brian Byrne. Kildare County Council has established a freephone hotline for reporting litter offences.

This number, 1800 243 143, is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and calls are treated in the strictest confidence.

The council also recently invited applications from interested groups for funding for projects that promote greater public awareness and education in relation to litter pollution.

Projects that focus on voluntary initiatives by community and environmental groups and/or involve schools and young people in anti-litter action are encouraged.

Funding of up to 70% of the overall cost of projects may be available. The balance of the cost should be met by local contributions or sponsorship.

Application forms are available from the council’s Environment Section at St. Mary’s, Naas, tel 045-873838.

The closing date for applications is Friday 12th July 2002.
