LEIXLIP, 28 November 2002: Though the site has finally been purchased for Leixlip Garda Station, there's no indication as to when it might be built.
The minister for justice, Micheal McDowell TD, said in the Dail that the building of the station 'will be progressed with all due urgency, in accordance with overall priorities within the Garda Building Programme.
But he added the caveat that it depended on 'the availibility of financial and other resources'.
Local TD Emmet Stagg says this equivocation is a 'slap in the face' to the people of Leixlip, after a 4-year search for a site. "I don't know of any other town with a population of 16,000 people who have to put up with a Garda Station such as the existing premises in Leixlip," he said.
