Leixlip goes all flowery

LEIXLIP, 10 June 2002: by Bill Trapman. More than 200 floral displays have been installed in Leixlip in recent weeks, providing a colourful aspect to the town for the summer season.

They included 157 window boxes, 50 hanging baskets and 20 lamp-post tubs. The displays are part of the Leixlip Town Council’s improvement plan, and they were planted and provided by Leixlip Garden Centre.

Intel provided funding for a special watering machine to maintain the displays during the summer, a job carried out by a team lead by Philip McDermott early each morning before traffic in the town builds up.

The town is to enter for the prestigious European Entente Florale event next year. An update of the Town Improvements Plan is currently underway, and it is hoped the revised plan will be published shortly.
