NAAS, 2 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Naas UDC has lodged an objection with the Environmental Protection Agency against an application by KTK Landfill Ltd, Kilcullen, for permission to increase the maximum annual tonnage that may be dumped in their Kilcullen site from 220,000 tonnes to 275,000 tonnes.

The UDC unanimously agreed a motion by Cllr Pat McCarthy to make the formal objection, based on the increased danger and inconvenience to the residents of Naas that would result from the extra volume of truck traffic, should the licence be granted.

With little time left subsequent to the decision at the December UDC meeting, prior to the closing date for objections, town clerk Declan Kirrane assured the councillors that the objection would be delivered to the EPA in Wexford on time.
