Kingstown seek a permanent 'home' pitch

25 September 2003: A case for a permanent football pitch for the Naas based Kingstown soccer club was made by Cllr Willie Callaghan (below) at this week’s adjourned meeting of Naas Town Council.

The club, which was formed eight years ago, have never had a ‘permanent’ home of their own. They were previously accommodated in various venues, namely a field at Punchestown Race Course, St Patrick’s Community College (VEC) pitch on the Newbridge Road and at the Caragh Road sports grounds.

However, due to the success of Naas AFC (formerly Naas Schoolboys) who are based at the Caragh Road grounds, Kingstown are finding it difficult to play their matches at that venue, especially as they want to have a second team in the club.

“It’s something for the young people and the not-so-young people in the town and helps keep the younger ones off the streets,” Cllr Callaghan said this week.

His plea was supported by all town councillors and the town clerk and town engineer are to try and locate a suitable site for the club.
