'Critical' Kill NS situation

27 January 2004: Teachers and parents in Kill expressed their concerns last week about the 'critical' situation faced by the local primary school.

The issue was the subject of a meeting hosted by the Labour Party and attended by Deputy Emmett Stagg, and party candidates for the local elections Paddy McNamara and John Hubbard.

More than 60 people attended the meeting, which reviewed the situation where the existing primary school premises and site were deemed unsuitable by the Department of Education seven years ago.

Those attending were urged to lobby their local TDs and the Minister for Education for money to be allocated for a site purchase this year for a new school.

Some 32 million has been earmarked nationally for such site purchases, and decisions will be made in early February.

Ten acres of land in Kill has been zoned for educational purposes.
