Kilcullen protests litter job

21 September 2003: Kilcullen Community Action has suspended its litter patrol until further notice. This is in protest at Kildare County Council’s failure to appoint a replacement for street cleaner Paddy Mitchell who retired last October.

Throughout the summer KCA members and supporters were active in picking up litter throughout the town and on all approach roads. In spite of numerous promises by the Council about replacing Paddy nothing has happened.

Kilcullen is now the fastest growing town in the County. Two years ago it was a village of just over 500 houses. Over 1200 new houses are now either completed or nearing completion. The poplulation is expected to rise from 1500 to 6,000.
