Ground broken on latest Kilcullen development

KILCULLEN, 14 November: by Brian Byrne. Ground was broken yesterday on the latest of Kilcullen's green spots to become a housing estate - what was formerly known as Jim Byrne's Field.

The property was the subject of a planning application by Huntberry Ltd for 100 residential units, including apartments and houses. The project will irrevocably change yet another vista of Kilcullen.

Meantime, other building projects within themain town area are proceeding at a fast pace. Esker Lea(above) is almost complete with its 38 homes, Highpark Developments in the former Joe McTernan's Field are making fast progress on 69 houses, Colm Murray has commenced work on a 10-apartment project at Hillside (below), and 192 houses are currently under construction at Castlemartin Lodge, and 256 houses are being built in the Cnoc na Greine development on the Sunnyhill Road.

Meantime, Riverside Manor in O'Connell's Field (below) is now sprouting houses as plentifully as it used to push up mushrooms in August and September. Permission has been granted for 18 apartments at the back of Bardon's pub, and a decision to allow 53 houses and 30 apartments in Moanbane Park is awaiting the result on an appeal to An Bord Pleanala.

Other proposals awaiting planning permission include 10 apartments at the rear of Saunaland, another 19 houses at Sunnyhill, and 21 houses on the Chapel Road.
