Recycling facility planned for Kilcullen

KILCULLEN: 14 May 2001: by Brian Byrne. Recycling facilities are to be brought back to Kilcullen by the provision of a recycling collection area beside the town library (above).

Members of Kilcullen Community Action have met with Rehab, and plans are well under way for the development of a site for collection bins on a 20 sq m site.

The scheme will involve a basic weekly collection by Rehab, but an emergency next-day collection service is also available.

It will be up to KCA to maintain the site in a tidy manner, as it will be visited regularly by Kildare County Council's Litter Warden.

"If he finds it is not being properly maintained, the facility will be immediately removed," KCA's Paul Kennedy says. "This was the problem with the previous facilities in the church car park."

KCA also intends to promote home composting of waste, using special composting bins available from Kildare County Council at a subsidised price of £20. If further local sponsorship can be found, this cost could be halved.
