Kilcock Musical Society sweeps AIMS

17 June: Kilcock Musical Society has swept the boards at the Gala Awards Ceremony, of the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) at the Great Southern Hotel in Killarney.

Over 850 members of musical societies around the country saw Kilcock pick up the winner's trophy in no less than six categories for their outstanding recent production of the Sondheim musical, 'Sweeney Todd'.

These included those for Best Chorus, Chris Ramsey as Best Supporting Male, Marie Kelly as Best Actress, Todd Brothers as Best Actor, Pat Dwyer as Best Director (2nd year running!), and also the prestigious Best Overall Show award. Runners-up trophies were received by Graham Walsh in the category of Best Musical Director, and Yvonne Ramsey in the Best Supporting Female category.

The nominees for these awards were picked from all the amateur musical productions in the entire 32 counties this year, so even being nominated is quite an achievement. Director Pat Dwyer, has now won the coveted title of Best Director for the second year running. This year also, the effort of the group as a whole was rewarded with the Best Chorus award, and also the Best Overall Show.

This has been an outstanding success for the society who would like to thank all their valued patrons and sponsors for their continued support and hope that they are proud to know that they are contributing to a company where the members and the production team put in months of hard work to produce a show of this standard. This has now been recognised nationally.

The Awards Scheme for 2004 will be kindly sponsored by Volkswagen Ireland.
