No upgrade for courthouse

13 October 2003: There is no prospect of Kilcock Courthouse being upgraded because the Courts Service is considering the provision of court services in a new 'major civic complex' for North Kildare.

But the proposal by Kildare County Council for this complex is still only at concept stage, and no funding provision or detailed plans are yet in place.

Kilcock Courthouse is widely considered as being 'unsatisfactory' for the judges, court staff, gardai, legal representatives, defendants and the press.

Deputy Emmet Stagg said the response from the CEO of the Court Service to his latest representations was 'disappointing' and any new facility seems 'light years away'.
