Senior citizens enjoy Kerdiffstown entertainment

NAAS, 10 July 2002: by Trish Whelan. Senior citizens from Naas enjoyed themselves at two evening functions at Kerdiffstown House last week.

Each year, the group is invited to join in the celebrations and meet old folk from various clubs and organisations who look forward to an annual holiday at Kerdiffstown.

The house, located on the Dublin side of Naas, is run by the St Vincent de Paul organisation. It is used by different groups from May to September for short holiday breaks. All groups bring along their own voluntary workers to help out.

It’s a week not to be missed by the Naas folk who renew friendships with their Dublin pals.

It all started about 27 years ago when Marie Kelly was asked to bring senior citizens from Naas to join the evening entertainment. Firm friendships have evolved down the years.

Travel last week, as always, was provided by the Naas Unit of the Order of Malta.

Local musicians Barney Kavanagh, Maurice and Marie McGarr provided the entertainment on Monday evening.

On Thursday, the Nas Na Riogh Set Dancers took to the floor, with Biddy Kilduff also performing a solo Sailor’s Hornpipe. The Set Dancers have performed on twinning trips in Allaire, (France) and Casallatico (Italy).
