KCC seeks material contravention at Roseberry

NEWBRIDGE, 30 June 2002: by Brian Byrne. Kildare County Council is seeking a material contravention for agricultural land it owns at Roseberry in Newbridge, so it can give itself planning permission for the development of the first phase of an integrated social housing development.

The development's first phase will include construction of 172 dwellings comprising 54 houses in three types and 118 apartments in three types. These will include 38 three bedroom units, 107 two bedroom units and 27 one bedroom units in a mix of two-storey semi-detached, two-storey terraced, three-storey terraced and three-storey apartment blocks;

Some 40 semi-detached subsidised sites will also be part of the development, along with development works to access voluntary housing scheme of 40 dwellings which will be subject of separate application.

Access to a proposed women’s refuge is also part of the application.

The associated development works will include the provision of one way traffic signal control to the adjoining Sexes Bridge and a pedestrian access ramp from Sexes Bridge along the south side of the existing railway towards existing railway station car park at Rickardstown, Roseberry and common townlands.

The development would contravene materially the objective of the Development Plan which states that where an area of land is not within an identifiable settlement, and is not otherwise zoned as part of this Development Plan, or of the town Development Plans, the use of such land will be deemed to be primarily agricultural.

Particulars of the development may be inspected at the offices of Kildare County Council at St Mary's, Naas, between hours 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 3pm Monday to Friday. Any submission or observation as regards the making of a decision to grant permission received not later than four weeks after 22 June 2002, will be considered by the Planning Authority.
