Grants available for anti-litter awareness

KILDARE GENERAL, 17 June 2002: by Bill Trapman. Kildare County Council has invited applications from interested groups for funding for projects that promote greater public awareness and education in relation to litter pollution.

Projects that focus on voluntary initiatives by community and environmental groups and/or involve schools and young people in anti-litter action are encouraged.

Funding of up to 70% of the overall cost of projects may be available. The balance of the cost should be met by local contributions or sponsorship.

Application forms are available from the council’s Environment Section at St. Mary’s, Naas, tel 045-873838.

The closing date for applications is Friday 12th July 2002.

The council has also invited applications from residents associations of privately developed estates for grants towards expenses incurred on estate maintenance this year.

Grant applications will be considered for works such as estate name-signs, landscaping, flower beds and other minor works. Major works are not covered by the scheme. Grants will be awarded after inspection of each estate and the number of houses in each estate will be taken into consideration when awarding grants. Groups that have already submitted application forms for 2002 do not need to reapply.

Grants are also again available for cemetery committees and other voluntary groups for grants towards expenses incurred or likely to be incurred this year on cemetery maintenance work.
