'Juno' takes to Kilcullen boards

KILCULLEN 17 January 2003: They were there before me. I was part of them for a number of years. They are a part of the cultural history of Kildare that is a little less sung about than are most of the other bits.

And for the next week or so, Kilcullen Drama Group will be doing what it does best. Entertaining people with the work of Ireland's best playwrights. In this case, with Sean O'Casey's 'Juno and the Paycock'.

They had their preview performance last night, and until the 25th of January the cast - a mix of the old reliables such as Bernard Berney, Vivian Clarke and Margaret O'Shea, and newcomers to the troupe such as Emyln Hegarty-Kelly - will be outlining this cameo from the large drama of Ireland at the time of its difficult birth as a state.

The production is by Paddy Melia, lighting by Frankie Mitchell, and set design by Pat Dunlea.
