EPA to issue pollution licence to Intel

LEIXLIP, 19 September: by Bill Trapman. The EPA has decided to grant Intel an IPCL licence for its factory in Leixlip, on foot of an application made last December. The public or any other interested party may lodge objections by October 3, at a cost of £100.

A submission was made by Leixlip resident John Colgan to the application, in which he said he ‘wished to secure conditions in the licence which would protect the wellbeing of Leixlip and neighbouring communities’.

Two weeks ago Intel was reported in the Liffey Champion newspaper as alleging that the EPA was engaging in a vendetta against the company and complaining of long delays in granting it its new licence.

“The report was made by the Cathaoirleach of Leixlip Town Commissioners, Michael Rodgers, to the normal, monthly meeting of the LTC held first Tuesday in September,” Mr Colgan said this week. “The newspaper also carried a subsequent denial of the cathaoirleach's 'interpretation' of his private meeting with a company official.”

Mr Colgan has issued a press release outlining his perception of the progress of the application. It is reproduced here, as received.
