Kildare adopts housing strategy

KILDARE GENERAL, 22 June 2001: by Bill Trapman. Kildare County Council has adopted a draft housing strategy under Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000.

The strategy applies to the entire county of Kildare, including the Urban Districts of Naas and Athy and it covers the period 2001-2005.

The strategy deals with:
·The likely population growth and household formation in the county
·House prices, household incomes and housing affordability
·Zoning of land for housing purposes
·Infrastructural and other support services for housing
·The provision of local authority and voluntary housing
·The provision of affordable housing.
·The percentage of land transferable to local authorities under Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000 by landowners and prospective developers.

The strategy will be of interest to housing applicants, housing agents, developers, landowners, community groups, voluntary bodies working in social and charitable areas, financial institutions, auctioneers and valuers, architects, engineers, organisations concerned with land use planning and citizens generally.

Copies of the draft strategy are available on written or telephone application to the Council’s Project Office at the address below. The strategy is also available on the Council’s website at http://www.kildare.ie/countycouncil/.

Submissions on the strategy are invited from all interested parties and should please be submitted to the County Secretary at the address shown below not later than 5.00 p.m. on Thursday 12th July 2001. Please mark submissions 'Housing Strategy 2001-2005'.
