Council won't meet housing forecasts

08 October 2003: Kildare County Council is hopeful of achieving 273 housing starts for 2003 by the end of this year, but that will be only a little over half of the 486 starts forecast at the beginning of the year.

And to date, only 36 starts have actually taken place, leaving the council under severe pressure to meet the revised target mentioned by officials.

Worse, only 22 houses have actually been completed by the council so far for 2003, against the background of a housing list of more than 2,700 people.
