The event, held in St Mary's College, was organised by Naas Flower and Garden Club and raised £1,000 for St Brigid's Hospice.

NAAS, 24 October: by Trish Whelan. Besides knowing an Aspidistra from a Birginia, members of Naas Flower and Garden Club also know a thing or two when it comes to fundraising.

Members and friends packed the hall of St Mary’s College recently for a demonstration in flower arranging by Kilkenny woman Emily Whitford McDonald.

The ‘Let’s Celebrate’ theme included demonstrations on a number of different themes such as a harvest moon, haymaking, autumn, and jam making.

A delighted Teresa O’Doherty of St Brigid’s Hospice and Home Care Unit Kildare - West Wicklow Branch, accepted a cheque for £1,000, the proceeds of the night, from club President Betty Morrison.

Members also provided refreshments after the demonstration. On duty here were Therese O’Reilly, Mary Hayde, Phil O’Keeffe, Mary McGrath, Maura Higgins and a host of helpers.

Plants on sale during the evening were also supplied by club members.

The floral demonstrations were raffled off to help swell the charity cheque.

November 26 will see the club’s ‘Images of Christmas’ demonstration with Maura Donnelly. This takes place in the Teasasc Centre, Friary Road, at 7.45pm. Visitors are welcome.
