Flooding solution comes closer

ARDCLOUGH, 24 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Flooding in Karneystown and Ardclough will soon be resolved, following action by Kildare County Council. The council has contracted a company to complete some preliminary work, on the foot of an AURP report that looked at the flooding from Dangan Corner to the Weir on the Liffey.

This report was completed in the autumn of 2001 and Barry’s & Co engineers have now been contracted to examine and put forward a plan to solve problems from Boston Hill to Kearneystown, including Lyons Estate. This report is due out in the next three weeks.

The move has been welocmed by Cllr Geraldine Conway, who says that ‘things have come a long way’ since the first representatives from Ardclough and herself met with engineers from Kildare County Council in relation to the flooding over two years ago.

“There was a long battle to get this project moving and there were times when it looked like it was not going to happen,” she says. “But patience, perseverance and commitment prevailed and now at last there is an end in sight.”

Funding has been secured to carry out the necessary work when the report is finally published in three weeks time.
