26 January 2004: Progressive Democrats Councillor John Lyons is urging Kildare County Council to ensure that all new homes built in the county are fitted with fire blankets and fire extinguishers.

Councillor Lyons has submitted a motion to the Council, urging that any future planning permission granted for new housing developments should include a requirement that adequate fire safety features be included in each new home.

Councillor Lyons is also urging existing homeowners to invest in such safety features if they do not currently have them, and to install smoke alarms.
