Equestrian project permission overturned

TWO MILE HOUSE 23 January 2003: County Kildare has lost what was termed a multi-million euro equestrian centre, following the overturning of planning permission for the project at Two Mile House. The plan was shot down by An Bord Pleanala.

Herbertstown Stud had been given permission for the project, which included holiday homes, and would have been the first of its kind in Ireland.

The third party appeal against the project was taken by An Taisce, which overturned the permission on the grounds that it would generate too much traffic, that it was contrary to the policy of preserving rural character, and that housing in open countryside would 'set a dangerous precedent.
