'Interest call' for Duchas festival

KILDARE, 29 June 2001: by Martin Dempsey. Dúchas Chill Dara 2001 - Kildare International Folk Arts Festival, has invited groups and individuals who are interested in becoming involved in this year's festival in Kildare Town to attend a meeting in the Carmel Hall, Kildare on Thursday 12 July at 9pm.

The festival will be held from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August 2001. It is organised by Kildare Town Twinning Association in conjunction with The Institute For International Cultural Exchange.

International groups invited to take part in this year's festival include La Pibole Saintongeaise, Saintes, France; Folk Dance Ensemble Rotala, Riga, Latvia; Banda Gaites Candas, Asturias, Spain and Folk Music Group Atra, Rattvik, Sweden, who will be joined by Irish folkdance groups, music groups and bands.

IICE - The Institute for International Cultural Exchange was founded in 1985. Since then groups have visited Kildare from France, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Poland, Estonia, Croatia, Spain, Hungary and the Celtic Nations - Brittany, Cornwall, Isle of Man and Wales.
