School project cancelled

19 June 2003: The permanent building project for Tiermohan NS, Donadea, has been cancelled, and the school has been offered instead a prefab classroom.

The present school was built in 1969 and has just under 100 pupils. The main school building has two classrooms with the remainder of pupils being taught in two prefabs, one of which is over 20 years old.

The provision of an additional prefab will mean that 60 per cent of pupils of Tiermohan School will be taught in prefabs.

"This is truly a shocking figure," says local representative Deputy Emmett Stagg. "In addition to the building of permanent classrooms, the school requires a hall. The school project is not even in architectural planning which means it could be years before it sees the required extension."
