Curragh girl jumps to victory

CURRAGH, 17 August 2002: by Bill Trapman. Fourteen-year old Nicola FitzGibbon from the Curragh jumped her way to victory in the 148A Equestrian World Grand Prix at the recent Dublin Horse Show. Nicola won the competition on board eight-year-old 'Miami Bound' at the Kerrygold Dublin Horse Show.

The 148A is known among the equestrian industry as one of the most challenging and difficult competitions in the Dublin Horse Show. However, Nicola and Miami Bound took it all their stride, effectively leaving the rest of the competition behind. The 148A win was a hat trick for Nicola after she was already crowned Reserve Champion in the 138 Show Pony Class with 'Kennilwood Pushkin' earlier the same morning.

Last year Nicola was second with 'Kiltalla's King', a 138 cm Connemara Gelding who is now competing very successfully in Sweden. She has also had three wins on three different ponies at the Cavan Home Pony International competition and has even competed on the Irish team in Belgium.
