Council of Young People inaugural

16 October 2003: An inaugural meeting of Comhairle na nÓg - Council of Young People - in Kildare was held last evening under the auspices of Kildare County Development Board and Kildare Youth Services. It was held in the Council Chamber at St Mary's in Naas.

The initiative comes under the National Children's Strategy Our Children - Their Lives launched by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, in November 2000, which has as its key objective the improvement of the quality of lives of Ireland's children over a decade.

A Comhairle na nÓg in each county is aimed at providing a forum to discuss views and concerns on issues that affect their lives. At the County Kildare inaugural sitting, representatives were selected to attend the third sitting of Dáil na nÓg, which will take place on 15 November, organised by the National Children's Office.
