New County Hall plans proceeding

COUNTY HALL 14 January 2003: Work on the new HQs for both Kildare County Council and Naas Town Council are now expected to get under way in the coming year.

Tenders for the project, which is to be based in the former Devoy Barracks site, are now being examined by the relevant experts.

The completion of the premises will have the officials of both councils located in the new building, though Naas Town Council still plans to retain its Council Chamber in the Town Hall.

The position of a proposed temporary relocation to Millennium Park for both authorities, in premises to have been bought by Kildare County Council, is now believed to be no longer in consideration.

Staff at KCC are known to have been opposed to the move without an agreed recompense.
