Civil Defence faces volunteers issue

KILDARE GENERAL, 12 January 2002: by Bill Trapman. One of the major issues facing Civil Defence Officer in Kildare, Larry Coughlan, is getting people to volunteer as officers.

He made the comments in the Winter 2001-2 edition of the magazine of the General Council of County Councils

Larry told GCCC News this is a problem experienced by civil defence officers all over the country. He said anyone who wants to get involved must be prepared to make quite a significant commitment. This, against the fact that nowadays people are much busier commuting to work and so have less time to spare.
