Deputy calls for town improvement scheme to be completed

CELBRIDGE: 8 May 2001: by Bill Trapman. A call for Kildare County Council to complete the remainder of the Celbridge Town Improvement Scheme has been made by local councillor Emmet Stagg TD.

A report relating to the current state of play in terms of work already done and outstanding will be considered at a meeting of local area councillors on Friday next.

"It is imperative that Kildare County Council immediately provide further funding to enable the present contractors to remain on site," Deputy Stagg said this weekend. "It is also critical that the undergrounding of overhead wires be cleared for funding."

The estimated cost for the undergrounding of wires is £80,000, according to Deputy Stagg. He notes that £162,000 has been spent from development levies on the Maynooth Town Improvement Scheme and a minimum of a similar sum must be provided in Celbridge.

"The residents of Celbridge expect and deserve the same treatment as was the case in Maynooth," he says.
