CELBRIDGE, 23 October 2002: Nine students have been chosen to receive  Permanent TSB High Achievers Awards by the Royal Irish Academy of Music, due to their outstanding results in their recent music exams.

The students - who play various instruments including Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute and Recorder - are students at Celbridge School of Music, Scoil Mochua, Celbridge, under the direction of Michael Gaskin.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the school and these pupils,” says Michael Gaskin. “We usually have one or two receiving the award each year and only 300 are chosen countrywide but this year the results were outstanding and I am delighted for these students and their teachers.”

Celbridge School of Music has grown from strength to strength in recent years, having enjoyed a European Tour of Holland and Germany in 2001, and had recent performances in Aula Maxima, Maynooth and National Concert Hall. The School provides tuition on recorder, flute, trumpet, trombone, clarinet and saxophone and also has a Junior and Senior Band. They now have over 200 students from the Celbridge area and 7 teachers.

The Leinster Regional Award Ceremony will take place at St Nicholas's Church, Dundalk, on 16th November.
