Residents want footbridge over canal

NAAS, 13 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. The possibility of getting a footbridge over the canal at the Caragh Road bridge has again been raised by local Cllr Anthony Egan.

He was told by the town engineer that a number of different proposals are being considered.

John McGowan said the preferred option, he said, is a footpath and lights to allow for a one-way system for traffic. He said the Inland Waterways would have to be involved in a decision.

Anthony Egan said traffic lights at the bridge had been ruled out on the basis of advice from the previous town engineer. "Residents of the Caragh Road want access via a footbridge," he stressed.
