Hotfoot for Willie and friends

12 October 2003: Naas councillor Willie Callaghan can often get hot under the collar in the course of council business. But he's soon to put his feet in the fire to lead a fundraising event for Enable Ireland.

The councillor and former mayor of Naas is employed as events and fundraising manager for the organisation, which was recently allocated a grant of €300,000 towards a new education centre by Naas Town Council.

The event is a 'fire walk' over 20 feet of burning embers, which will be attempted at Devoy Quarter on 31 October.

Each of the volunteers has to raise sponsorship of €300 or more before they can take part.

African drummers will entertain before the event.
