'Brides and brothers' opens tonight

NAAS 05 February 2003: Naas CBS is renowned for its spectacular musicals in recent years and this year’s offering Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is about to make history!

So great was the demand from the boys of Naas CBS and the girls of St Mary’s College (and a few from Scoil Mhuire in Clane) that it’s now Seventeen Brides for Seventeen Brothers!

Opening nights gets underway at 8pm tonight and the show is set to run for four nights in the CBS Secondary School. Tickets are on sale at Mattimoes and at the school, priced E10 for adults and E6 for children and OAPs.

This year Mona Conroy has returned to the helm as show director. She is ably assisted by two of her daughters, Brigid who teaches in the school and Emer. The musical director is local man Brian Brady. The show is produced by vice principal Liam mcManus and Anne Meade. The dance steps are by choreographer Deirdre Browne. Sets were constructed by woodwork teachers Rory Purcell and Aidan Moroney and their students.

The two leads are played by Ross McMahon and Niamh Whyte.

The rest of the cast include - boys - Colm Connolly, Oisin Hannigan, Cormac Connaughton, Michael Mahon, peter Fay, Graham Ready, Brian Canavan, Rory McManus, Michael O’Leary, Colm Keane, Luke Higgins, Ciaran McManus, Cian O’Dowd, Aidan Keane, Cathal Daly and Paul King.

The girls include Lisa Sourke, Jane Cronin, Fiona Jones, Kate O’Leary, Emma Clarke, Helen Mahon, Orla Hanrahan, Deirdre Carbery, Fiona Gillespie, Roisin Deady, Marie Kenny, Aine quirke, Carol Malone, Emma Brogan, Jennifer McMahon and Aishling Reddy.

Chorus members are Laura Fox, Aoife Garvey, emer McCabe, jennifer McGrath, Aishling O’Sullivan and Jane Kelly.
