Bluegrass Festival will have Dutch, US, artists

ATHY, 11 July 2002: by Brian Byrne. The Athy International Bluegrass Festival on the weekend of July 19-21 will include artists from as far afield as the USA and Holland as well as noted exponents of the music from Ireland.

4 Wheel Drive (Holland), Ross Nickerson ( USA), Clem O Brien and Rough Deal String Band, Niall Toner, Nth’ Exposure, Woodbine, Carrie Brown, and Paul & Gerry are the headline performers in a weekend which will also include a number of ‘wandering minstrels’.

The festival will be centred around Athy GAA Centre, with concerts on Friday and Saturday nights from 9.30pm Tickets for the concerts will be 10 euros, and a weekend ticket can be had for 15 euros.

The festival is sponsored by Norse Security and is being grant-aided by Kildare County Council and Athy Town Council.

Sessions around the town are open to all musicians who want to bring their guitars, banjos and fiddles along. The event is the 12th annual one, and further information can be had from obrientony@eircom.net

A Banjo Workshop on Saturday at 12.30pm will be led by Ross Nickerson.
