School can't afford tables, chairs

05 July 2003: Scoil Naomh Mhuire in Ballymore Eustace cannot find the resources to equip its new extension with tables, chairs and other basic items.

The school needs in the region of E70,000, yet all the department has offered is E5000.

“Cost-cutting and penny-pinching is being prioritised above providing a decent standard of education to our children," says Labour Kildare South TD Jack Wall. "We have a right to expect our schools to be adequately furnished and equipped, but clearly this government does not see it this way.

"I am challenging Minister Dempsey to travel to Ballymore Eustace and meet with pupils, their parents, and staff at Scoil Naomh Mhuire and explain to them precisely what he thinks they should do with their new extension.”
