Quarry decision dismays residents

10 October 2003: A quarry and concrete plant permission which had been appealed to An Bord Pleaneala has been upheld by the Bord, to the dismay of residents of Ballymore.

The project will last for 10 years on a 120-acre site, and will be operated dby Readymix.

The project was the subject of an oral hearing at which opposition was mounted by local councillors, residents, the equine industry and the Barretstown Gang Camp for children with serious illness.

A spokesman for local community action group ABCD said the community is sceptical about the conditions attached to the project.

It is reported that the opponents are considering seeking a judicial review of the decision from the High Court.
