Developer dust gets up Kilcullenites' noses

KILCULLEN, 17 August: by Brian Byrne. This is a picture of Kilcullen's Main Street this afternoon, in a veritable dust-storm caused by the developers of a riverside housing development.

Following a number of protests from Kilcullen residents, Kildare County Council has warned AWG Developments - formerly Morrison Homes - who are building 'premium quality houses' in a joint development with local landowner Brendan O'Connell, that they'll have to clean up their act, and fast.

The developers, who have been on the site for several months, yesterday built a wheelwash trough after the visit from KCC officials. But it won't be working until Monday, as the concrete has to be given time to set before it is filled with water.

In the meantime, the site manager told KNN that he has restricted the number of trucks drawing earth off the site to three, though he needs 15 working to do the job required.

The site is managed by Green Project Management of Virginia House in Naas, whose Brendan Colivet told KNN in May that their clients - who are ultimately owned by UK-based Anglian Water Group, AWG plc - 'have very high standards'.

AWG Developments is involved with Lehmex International Ltd, the property development vehicle of Naas businessman Gerry Conlan, in the construction of a 295-home development on the Sallins Road in Naas, and with P J Walls and Woodford Developments in Dublin developments.
