Single gets football backing

05 July 2003: Above is the cover of the ATLANTIS single ‘The Curragh of Kildare’ which has been given the official backing of the Kildare Supporters Club and the Kildare County Board and was launched on Thursday last in the Keg, Newbridge.

Pictured are Vicky Cahill, Lenny Cahill, Derek Conroy and Colly Cahill with the Kildare team in the foreground and the familiar sight of the Curragh in the background. Graham Coffey of Cofdesign, Red Door Studio, Barrettstown Road, Old Connell, Newbridge designed the cover.

Atlantis is a Newbridge band and the single - a Celtic-Rock version of the Kildare anthem - originally appeared as a track on their album, ATLANTIS, which was launched last year.

This classic Irish melody was performed previously by The Horslips, Gary Moore, The Waterboys and Newbridge's own Christy Moore. The result is astounding, maintaining the haunting original melody over a driving passion-filled backbeat.

Sponsors of the project include Lucina Russell, County Arts Officer; Seamus Cosgrove (Facton); Cllr Pat Black - Mayor of Newbridge. Kildare County Board Chairman Andrew O’Sullivan and Vice Chairman, Syl Merrins; Kildare Supporters Club Chairman Michael Osborne; Ray O’Brien Motors Ltd, and Mario Corrigan from the Local Studies Department of The History & Family Research Centre.

Atlantis is made up of Colly Cahill on Vocals/Guitars, Vicky Cahill on Vocals/Guitars, Lenny Cahill, Percussion, Keyboards & Programming, and Derek Conroy on Bass Guitar (Derek also is responsible for the match commentary on the dance version of the single).
