Athy Library events for Children's Book Week

ATHY, 17 October: by Trish Whelan. Athy Community Library is hosting a number of exciting and fun activities and competitions for National Children’s Bookweek 2001. These activities will run from Tuesday 30 October to Friday 2 November and all are free of charge.

Tuesday 30 October: 11-11.30am. Make a fabric book with textile artist Genevieve King. Age 6-12. Booking is required. 1.20-4pm. Dance performance/workshop ‘The magic of Dance’ with Cathy O’Kennedy. Age 6-12. No booking required.

Wednesday 31 October:
2.30-4pm. Popular children’s author and wild life artist Don Conroy will visit the library. Age open. No booking required.

Thursday 1 November: 11-12:30. Voice workshop with Eileen Stephens. Age 6-12. Booking required. 2:30-4pm. Puppet Show with Julie Rose McCormick. Age open. No booking required. 8pm. Inter-schools quiz for 5th and 6th classes. All schools are invited to enter teams for this annual event, one team per school.

Friday 2 November: 11-12:30. Creative Writing with Mae Leonard. Age 7-12. Booking required. 2:30-4pm. Arts and Crafts workshop with Margaret Wouters. Age 6-12. Booking required. 4:15pm. Prize giving for bookweek art competitions. There are two competition categories.

Design a poster ‘Books are magic’, 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes.
Design a bookcover, title: ‘The haunted library’, 5th and 6th class.

All entries to be handed into the Library before 5pm on Friday 26 October.
