Athlete new national champ

CELBRIDGE 17 February 2003: Kildare man David McCarthy is the new national indoor 400 metres champion. Racing in the colours of Celbridge Athletic Club, 19-year-old McCarthy ran 47.08 seconds at the Odysssey Arena in Belfast on Sunday.

McCarthy's time was a new championship record, but unfortunately the University Of Limerick student has still to run the qualyifing time for the World Indoors
in Birmingham next month.
