Permission granted for Celbridge arts centre

CELBRIDGE, 12 October 2002: A unit in the Celbridge Industrial Estate is to be turned into a Centre for the Performing Arts & Media following the granting of permission by Kildare County Council for a change of use of the premises.

The centre will have an auditorium, administrative area and instrument/props storage rooms, as well as a tuition and classroom facility.

The permission is only of a temporary nature, and ends on 31 October 2005, at which time the situation will be ‘reviewed’ by the council.

The permission includes a restriction on noise levels emanating from the centre, with lower levels applicable on weekends and bank holidays.

The centre, under the direction of Kevin Smith, has operated from St Raphael’s for the last five years, but has had to vacate that venue because of preparations for the Special Olympics.

It currently has over 700 pupils in a variety of training courses.

The Parents Association at Ard Scoil Rath Iongain in Rathangan collected a total of E7,067 through their annual auction and a golf classic during the last year. The money will be used to provide ‘extras’ for the school.
