Kildare 2012 - Our Vision
"By 2012 Kildare will be the first choice as a place to live, learn, work, visit and do business"
In achieving this vision we will strive to make Kildare a county with a better quality of life, better quality services and a better quality environment, where equality, inclusion and co-operation are central principles in the development of the county.
Kildare 2012 - Our Goals
The key goals of the Strategy, based on the outcomes of consultation, can be grouped under the following four headings and are:
Better Quality of Life
- Plan and provide for current and future infrastructure needs in an integrated and sustainable manner
- Achieve balanced development at regional, county and local levels
- Facilitate people to live, work and participate in life locally
- Maintain Kildare’s position as a relatively affluent and economically successful county
- Promote Kildare as an attractive location for economic, social and cultural development
- Promote recreation, amenity and culture as integral parts of living
Better Quality Services
- Achieve co-ordination and integration of services
- Achieve equal access to services and facilities
- Better Quality Environment
- Protect the natural and built environment
- Maximise use of current resources
Equality, Inclusion and Co-operation
- Foster social inclusion and equality
- Increase participation and involvement in community life and decision-making
- Foster co-operation between different agencies and sectors in achieving the shared vision
Kildare 2012 - Our Key Objectives
In order to achieve these goals six Key Objectives must be met. These six objectives are the most important areas for development and are designed to respond to the key challenges and responses facing the county:
- Develop our transport & communications infrastructure
- Respond to new settlement patterns through providing for:
- Housing & Physical Infrastructure
- Community Needs
- Respond to contrasts within the county through strengthening:
- Economic Progress, Skills & Regional Development
- Agriculture, Farming & Rural Development
- Protect and respond to demands and protect our environment
- Develop our education, training and capacity building provision
- Develop a sense of place
