Kildare 2012 - An Economic, Social and Cultural Strategy
How will the Strategy be 'proofed' against Poverty, Equality, Sustainability and Rural Development?
In drawing up this Strategy, KCDB has made every effort to ensure that those groups experiencing disadvantage have been involved and given the opportunity to have an input. The specific steps undertaken to ensure this are:
- Involvement of groups representing people with equality, anti-poverty and
sustainability agendas in Working Groups - Specific consultations with groups not usually asked for their opinions and groups who are disadvantaged
- Review of the Goals and Objectives of the Strategy in terms of how they contribute to:
- Promoting equality
- Reducing social exclusion
- Achieving sustainability
- Promoting rural development
This was done by looking at the Strategy in the context of the principles of Local Agenda 21, guidelines on equality proofing from the Equality Authority, poverty proofing guidelines contained in the National Anti-Poverty Strategy Review and rural proofing guidelines from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. In the implementation of the Strategy, KCDB will draw up its own proofing guidelines which will be used when fleshing out the actions and in the monitoring and review of progress.
The Social Inclusion Measures Working Group is central in embedding social inclusion into the implementation of the Strategy. The SIM Working Group will be closely involved in monitoring and agreeing guidelines for social inclusion. These guidelines will be applied to all actions in the Action Plan and the SIM Working Group will monitor the impact of actions on social inclusion. This will ensure that issues of sustainability, equality, social inclusion and rural development remain to the fore in Kildare.
