Kildare 2012 - An Economic, Social and Cultural Strategy

Back to Contents Page

This Strategy has been drawn up following extensive research and consultation to ensure that the views of all stakeholders in the county have been taken on board. The Strategy sets out a ‘Shared Vision’ for the future of the county, a set of goals and objectives to achieve this vision together with a set of actions that will build on the strengths and opportunities of the county and overcome its weaknesses.

The Strategy aims to make Kildare a better place to live, learn, work, visit and do business. It will be reviewed and updated at regular intervals to make sure that it remains relevant to current circumstances.

Implementing this Strategy will involve strong commitment and co-operation from all stakeholders. It will involve different ways of working, a fuller participation of communities and other stakeholders in decision-making and more co-operation and agreement between all those working for a better Kildare. The KCDB partners believe that by implementing this Strategy together and planning services in a way that takes account of everyone's views, services will be improved and will better meet the needs of people.

Limitations within the process must also be acknowledged. While the contribution of all partners is valuable and unique, KCDB recognise that the partners are not all equal in power, resources or status. Furthermore, while some actions require a different approach to policies and programmes, some actions require additional resources which must be made available if the all aspects of the Strategy are to be implemented.

The members of KCDB value the development of this Strategy as a useful process which has identified a number of opportunities and areas for integration and co-operation that were previously unseen. However, not all the issues identified in this document can be resolved locally. National policies and programme shape the resolution of some of these areas.

Therefore, KCDB favour and seek greater local flexibility in policy and programme decision-making and delivery and greater engagement locally by National Government Departments.
