Comhairle na nOg
Comhairle na nÓg is a junior council for children and young people aged 7-17. Members of Comhairle na nÓg represent children and young people from all district electoral areas of County Kildare. Comhairle na nOg has three main functions.
- It is a permanent structure that aims to ensure that children and young people have a voice in matters that affect their lives.
- It presents an opportunity to consult children and young people on matters that affect them.
- Children and young people are elected from Comhairle na nOg to Dàil na nÓg (Young people's parliament) and a Dàil na bPaistí (Children's Parliament).
Participation in Comhairle na nÓg will:
- Allow young people to develop personal and social responsibility
- Engage young people more fully in their community
- Prepare young people for participation in National Democracy
- Improve the relevance of local services for young people
- Assist in improving the social and communication skills of young people
- Recognise children and young people as a valuable resource.
