ATHY URBAN COUNCIL.
MONDAY.
The fortnightly meeting took place at 7 oclock. Present Messrs Thomas Hickey, Chairman, presiding; Joseph P. Whelan, M. Doyle, P. Dooley, M. Murphy, M. Kelly, M. Malone, J. B. Deegan, J. J. McHugh, J. A. Duncan, J.P.; M. E. Doyle and W. P. St. John.
ROAD MAINTENANCE.
A discussion arose as to the contracts to be taken for the
maintenance of the roads in the Urban District, and it was finally
agreed that the tenders for same be submitted to the Roads Committee
for consideration with a view to taking steps to procure material
from the most convenient quarter of the town.
THE AUTOMOBILE RACE.
Mr. C. Johnson, Secretary of the Automobile Club of Great Britain
and Ireland forwarded a petition to be presented to Parliament with
the view to the passing of a short Bill enabling the International Race
to be run, and expressing the hope that members of the Council would
sign the petition, also the signature of other influential gentlemen
whose opinion may be reasonably expected to have some weight.
In answer to the Chairman the members of the Council expressed
their approval of having the petition signed, and the Chairman, Vice-Chairman,
and other members affixed their signatures to the petition.
