Herbert Lodge Arts Centre is situated on the Curragh plains, the oldest undisturbed stretch of land in the world. It stands within a radius of 6 miles in the main Kildare town of Naas, Newbridge, Kilcullen and Kildare.

The house is set in the heart of the Curragh plains and is part of the heritage of Ireland. It is a listed building dating from the end of the seventeenth century. It is a distinctive building with unique architectural features.

Herbert Lodge is located with her back to the Hill of Allen, the fort of the Fianna of Fiannaiocht fame. Around its environs, the hounds of Fionn - Bran and Sceolan - hunted. Here Gol MacMorna led the Fianna in prayer to the gods. Over this landscape came Niamh Chinn Oir and to this plain, Oisin returned. Brigid claimed the plains from the King of Leinster and built her famous monastery south of Herbert Lodge. Herbert Lodge looks across on the Gibbeth Rath where the great massacre of 1798 took place. The house is the heart of the historical document which is its environs.
