ATHY WELCOMES GORDON BENNETT FESTIVAL

Major motor-sport festival comes to Athy, County Kildare, Bank Holiday Saturday. Details on the programme of events are as follows:

Saturday 31st May 2003.

11:00 - 6:00 Car Display by Ballinakill and Blessington Motor Clubs at Emily Square.

11:00 - 5:00 A Commemorative Speed Event by Carlow and Kildare Motor Clubs at Moate of Ardscull, Dublin Road, Athy.

1:30 - 4:00 Irish Dancing by St. Laurence's Set Dancers and Kilmeade Irish Figure Dancers at Moate of Ardscull, Dublin Road, Athy.

2:30 A talk by author Brendan Lynch on the Gordon Bennett Race in Athy will take place at the Athy Heritage Centre, Athy.

3:30 Live performance by The Guinness Jazz Band at Emily Square, Athy, followed by….

4:30 Street Entertainment from the The Prison Officers Pipe Band at Emily Square, Athy.

5:00 - 5:30 Cars arrive in Athy from the Moate of Ardscull.

6:00 Presentation of Prizes in Emily Square for Best "Re-enactment of 1903 Business Premises", and Time Trial winners followed by the Official Opening of the Gordon Bennett Cup Race Centenary Festival.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CAR DISPLAY IN EMILY SQUARE, PLANNED FOR 10:00 HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 5:00PM TO ALLOW THE CARS PARTICIPATE IN THE TIME TRIALS AT THE MOATE OF ARDSCULL
