The Irish Motorcycle Racing season gets underway on February 13th with its longest and least serious event of the year as fifty teams tackle the seventh annual ‘Nifty Fifty’ endurance race.

While the event may not be the fastest run at Mondello Park during 2016 it should provide some of the best entertainment, particularly with the usually chaotic ‘LeMans’ style start. The competitors will race in three classes open to different variants of the Honda Club and Cub ‘step-through’ machines so there will be battles going on right through the field.

At the head of the race however it will be the modified 90cc versions which will battle for the overall win with big names from the worlds of Road Racing and Short Circuit racing taking part, usually including some famous overseas names.

The Nifty Fifty is already established as the event of choice for Ireland’s Motorcycle racers to blow off the cob-webs and kick-start their season. Run in aid of charity the 6 hour race also has a serious side with each of the three class winners receiving €3,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. Half of the admission fee also goes to charity.

In keeping with the relaxed nature of the event the timetable is a little bit looser than most race meetings. Scrutiny will start at 8:00 on Saturday morning and once all of the machines are checked and everyone is ready, the race will get underway.

Admission to the 2016 Nifty Fifty is €12.50 for adults with under 16’s admitted free and the event can be followed via Mondello Park’s on-line live timing.
